When we went to where we've been....
This is the rough timeline for the bigger trips that Lynn and I have taken over the years. There are a few trips on which Lynn or I were solo (maybe a few personal days around a business trip or an excursion with family). I did not originally list the golf trips (annual early spring excursion to Phoenix starting in 2000) but I started to in 2017 and will catch up on the others. Also many of the short excursions that we have taken to visit family are not listed (a few, but not most).
Some of the earlier trips do not have a lot of documentation (photos, notes, etc.). For those trips I've added a note or two on this page with links to any photos. For trips with more information, click the link to the page for that year. Note also that for the trips before 2007 that most of the information for each trip is listed on the year page (click the linked year). As we started taking more trips and keeping better notes for those trips that the details are provided through the links from the year page (the details are in the form of trip reports, reviews, photo slideshows and of course the photobooks).

Seattle, Washington and Mount Rainier National Park (Allen). I added a couple days to the end of an AIAA conference trip to look around the area. Mike Cerney was living in the area so I was able to connect with him. On Thursday (7/10) the conference was winding down so I had time for a walking tour of Seattle including Pike Place Market this afternoon, then dinner with Cerney and his fiancé. Friday (7/11) was the day trip with Cerney to Mount Rainier National Park. We went to the Sunrise visitor Center (elevation 6400 feet) where the snow was still piled over 10 feet high. It was overcast so we could not see most of Rainier. We hiked a lower tail for about 2 miles along the moraine and on toward Emmons glacier. The clouds broke long enough to get a quick glimpse of the peak (we think). Here are some photos of the trip to Mount Rainier. Once back in Seattle for the evening, I took the monorail to Seattle Center and went up in the Space Needle (about 600 feet tall). Excellent view of the city and the surrounding country plus a decent view of Mount Rainer, although the summit was still obscured by the clouds.

Honeymoon in Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley State Parks, West Virginia. Lynn and I were married on Saturday, October 29, at her
hometown church. It was a nice, simple
ceremony that went off without a hitch, well except that her dad forgot one
ring, Tim Smith (my best man) nearly lost the other and the preacher seemed to
be just winging it by talking about o-rings and “this is Lynn and this is
Allen.” Whatever, we made it through
(and the Mountaineers beat Penn State, so a really good day!). After the reception, we headed into West
Virginia for our honeymoon at the state parks.
This was the first of many trips that I planned for the two of us. Alas, there are no notes from this excursion
and really no photos worth sharing (just the three below). But
it was the start of our travels as Mr. and Mrs…..and we are always looking for
new places to explore.
