Day Trips, Side Trips and Miscellaneous Happenings...In addition to the big trips, Lynn and I keep busy with other travel (when we aren't mowing the yard or caring for the critters). There are day trips to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo or Amish Country. We also walk a fair amount in the local parks. Sometimes we will do a little sight-seeing when visiting the folks or when on a business trip. Often these diversions provide some good photo opportunities.
Here is a list of some of the day trips, side trips and business trips that we have taken over the years; links to photos and other information are provided where available:

Here's a more complete list of zoos and aquariums from all of our trips.
2024 Total Solar Eclipse - A simply amazing natural phenomena happened right in our backyard in Medina, as northern Ohio was in the path of totality for the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. While we did not have to travel to see the event, it is worthy of its own page to document our experience and images.
Civil War Reenacting....
I was a member of the 1st Kentucky Cavalry, Company C (US and CS) for a few years back in the 1990s. This was a mounted memorial unit dedicated to US Civil War living history. Each reenactment was a weekend event, so a mini-trip. I reckon I got started with this hobby around 1990 and my last event was in 1996. Mason and I rode in events at Spencer Lake, Mesopotamia, Nova and other places in the area (we never went too far afield). It was a lot of fun, but very time consuming and took a toll on good ol' Mason. The last year I was in the unit I rode a borrowed mount; one of Mark Adamik's horses named Jesse. It just wasn't the same without Mason. But I learned a lot about riding and history. Here's a set of photos from the various reenactments. More details are on this page.
Golf Trips....
Golf is part of the culture at NASA Glenn; a lot of the folks that I have worked with over the years are avid golfers and I have picked up the game as well. Once I got hooked, golf became a staple of almost all the trips and the focus of many others.
The first dedicated golf trip that I went on was to Florida in late 1990s (1997, as I recall). A group of us stayed at Ed Becks's condo and played several courses in the Kissimmee area. For a couple years we were trying to make two trips per year, one in the spring and one in the fall. We made trips to South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas and even some local trips through Ohio. We soon fell in to the habit of a spring trip to Phoenix, Arizona, as could always count on good weather and great golf. We started going to Phoenix in 2000 and have made a trip there almost every year since. Here's a summary of the Arizona trips. and of the other golf trips in which I have participated over the years.
