Travel and Related Links....
This page has a collection of links that are at least somewhat related to travel. Many are used in planning trips or making reservations, some are for archiving the memories, and a few are just for fun....
Trip Planning Links:
Trip Advisor - The place to get the best information on any destination from the folks who really know...the ones who have traveled there! I spend most of my time in the forums, but I do use the review section as well.

New Zealand - This will be a huge trip for us, probably in the 2020 timeframe. At least a three-week itinerary (hopefully a little longer since it is a long way to travel).
Google Maps - Great tool for estimating travel times and distances. I finds this to be the easiest to use of the on-line map services.
Utah Meet-up - This site collects the links to all the Utah meet-ups in one place. The links below are included on this site.
- Page 2017 - Another sojourn into Arizona for the UTAH meet-up. Lake Powell and plenty of desert hiking.

- Kanab Meet-up (2011) - I created this website (my first site, as a matter of fact) to help the gang plan the Kanab meet-up (October 2011). The idea was to be able to collect all the pertinent information about the trip in one convenient location (rather than just using the Trip Advisor forums and having to scroll through hundreds of posts). Plus this site had it's own forum feature, which allowed us to plan without wasting TA's bandwidth.
AZ Golf Trips - I put this site together to help plan and share info on our golf trips, starting with the March 2012 trip to Phoenix.
Vacation/tour companies that we have dealt with:
- Terra Incognita Ecotours - 2010 "Private" Tour of Belize.
- YMT Vacations - 2013 Best of Ireland Tour.
- UnCruise - an excellent small boat cruise company. We used them for our 2019 Alaska adventure. They had all the details covered!
National Parks Information:
National Parks Service - Best source for information on the National Parks, Monuments, etc.
Sequoia Bear Paw High Sierra Camp - This is a hike and a place that we certainly want to do.
Best Yellowstone Day Hikes - A list of day hikes throughout the park.
Yosemite Hiking - As the name suggests, a listing of the hiking trails in each area of the park. Lots of details on each trail.
Yosemite High Sierra Camps - options for multi-day hiking in the back country.
Hiking:
In addition to the hiking information provided above specific for the National Parks, the sites listed below provide information on hiking and walking tours insides and outside the National Parks and all places in between....
Ramblr - During the summer of 2014, EveryTrial was not working very well, so I found an alternative phone app and website, Ramblr. It works like EveryTrail, but does not seem to have the span in terms of members, at least not yet. But at least I have options. Fairly easy to used and allows me to make trail maps for use in the trip journals and photobooks.
All Trials - from National Geographic.
Live and Let Hike - I found this site while research Chesler Park in Canyonlands National Park. Looks like there is a lot of useful information.

Natural Born Hikers - This site was put together by a group of avid hikers who have provided detailed descriptions of scores of great hikes from all around the globe. They have covered a lot of ground and I used their site a couple times for research my trips but it seems that the membership of their group continues to change and the info posted is not as useful as it once was. But they do have a very nice set of links to other hiking sites, so that's still a good resource.
Every Trail - I found this site through Trip Advisor. It seems to be mostly about hiking and walking tours, so right down my alley. The jury is still out on the usefulness of this site. Seems to be good information, but not the easiest to navigate. Over time it seems to be less and less maintained, to the point that I stopped using it and moved on to Ramblr.com.
Information and Archives:
Wandering Rose Travel - this is a site that one of the folks we met on the 2019 Alaska adventure is a contributor to. Looks like there might be some interesting information.
Beyond Mesa Verde - My buddy, Rick, put together this blog about the Anasazi ruins in the Four Corners region.
Sandy's Travel Blog (astropv.com) - Talk about a world traveler, this lady has traveled all around the planet. No really, she's orbited it! But her blog describes her terrestrial excursions.
OhioHick on SmugMug - Here's where I keep all my photos.
Canon photography forum - Photography on the net; focusing on all thing Canon.
OhioHick Presents - This is a site that I built on Weebly so that I could share links to trip reports and videos (and perhaps other media and information) without having to widely distribute the link to the "wewentthere" site.
OhioHick's Travel Tips - A quicky site put together to house miscellaneous pages (references for Trip Advisor and meet-up organization).
IrelandTour - I created a site for post-trip photo sharing and story-telling after our 2013 Tour of Ireland.
eBirds - website for tracking bird sightings.
Bird Forum - great site for figuring out what bird is which.
Butterflies and Moths - very helpful site (usually) for indientifying butterlies and moths.
Bug Guide - Another great resource for identifying the creepy, crawly critters!
